external piles
Can tensing the muscle that opens/closes the anus irritate external piles?

I have had an external pile for about a year, it never hurts, just feels like a tender lump on my anus. I’ve always had a weird habit of contracting the muscle of my anus when I’m nervous or sometimes when I just sit – Its the muscle which also holds off your pee. I’m wondering if prolonged tension of this can put pressure on the pile and stop it from going, as my stool is always soft and I can’t think of any other reason why its still there!
I’m a 22 year old male by the way, I think I caused the problem from a bad diet!

Ok, a couple of points need to be clarified.

The term ‘external pile’ is often misused to mean a skin tag at the anus. These form following healing of an anal fissure (a tear in the anal lining). Healing causes excessive tissue growth beyond that surrounding it, hence it forms a skin tag, otherwise known as an ‘external pile’ or ‘sentinel pile.’ It sounds like you are a prime candidate to have this, since clenching of the anus compresses small blood vessels, thus reducing blood supply to the anal lining, resulting in anal fissure formation followed by healing and skin tag formation. Anal fissures often itch and may cause slight bleeding, seen on the toilet tissue. Passing stool may sometimes hurt too.

External pile is often also used to describe a ‘prolapsed haemorrhoid.’ These are veins that start off inside the anus and over months or years, they can start to prolapse out. They may initially only appear on passing stool and then return into the anus (and not be noticed). But eventually, they may constantly remain outside the anus. They may bleed (into the toilet or onto the toilet paper) and sometimes a clot can collect inside them (thrombosed pile) causing them to swell and be a real ‘pain in the arse.’ No joke.

Both anal fissure and haemorrhoids are easily treated. I suggest you see a colorectal surgeon who can diagnose and treat you. Often earlier treatment is better and may avoid potential surgery.

Home Remedy To Get Rid Of Hemorrhoid

The simplest hemorrhoid treatment is the sitz bath. All you need to do is to soak in your bath filled with plain warm water for about 15 minutes several times a day. This treatment can help reduce the itch and pain caused by your hemorrhoids. While this may be a good way for pain relief, you will still need to seek medical treatment for the long term hemorrhoids cure.

Next, you may want to consider using medicated pads that contain witch hazel after bowel movement. Avoid using regular dry toilet paper because it will irritate the external hemorrhoids. Witch hazel is a key ingredient to this medication and is recommended because it is an astringent that will help reduce the swelling as well as the pain of having hemorrhoids. Once again, medicated pads offer only temporary relief and do not cure your hemorrhoids completely.

To get rid of your hemorrhoids once and for all, you should use hemorrhoids treatment cream. A good hemorrhoid cream can provide instant pain or itch relief as well as cure and treat hemorrhoids permanently. hemorrhoid operation
How to avoid Hemorrhoid operation? Pls help!?

Dear friends, I am getting scared when i surf net when i read about Hemorrhoids and piles because for the past 3 years (i know its too much of time) i am feeling a pulling pain in my anal after bowel movement which is rare and mostly during night between 3-5 am. For the past 3 years only once i saw blood with the stool. I am feeling shy to show to the doctor which i know is not wise (planning to meet doctor soon). How to find out myself whether it is a internal or external hemorrhoid and is it curable and what should i do to avoid any operation. Please don’t send 2 line answer i need in detail. Thank you for your concern.
I am 32 and unmarried.

Hey, to find out whether it’s a hemorrhoid or not I suggest taking a good look at the symptoms – I’ve briefly outlined 5 of the main ones for you below:.

1. The first hemorrhoid symptom is bright red blood in or on the stool, or blood on the toilet paper. If you notice streaks of blood in or on the stool or on the toilet paper during or after bowel movement then it’s fairly likely that you have hemorrhoids.

2. The second hemorrhoid symptom is when you have a feeling that you can’t finish passing a stool. You may have noticed that not matter how hard you try – you just can’t pass the stool

3. Another hemorrhoid symptom is itching sensation inside or at the entrance to the anal canal. This symptom is noticed by the vast majority of hemorrhoid sufferers with various degrees of pain.

4. The fourth hemorrhoid symptom is relevant for those suffering from external hemorrhoids. Lumps or mounds of flesh will be able to be seen around the anus. These can vary in size from about as big as a pea to bigger than a golf ball.

5. Mucus emissions are a slightly less common symptom of hemorrhoids but it is worth mentioning here because it does occur in some people.

So – what to do next…

For lasting cures I suggest you look at natural products such as H Miracle or Venapro. Both are affordable options that have been proven to work thousands of times over.

In the mean time, here’s a quick summary of what you should be doing right now:
Food – eat lots of fiber (fruit and veges)

Water – drink heaps, at least 8 glasses
Exercise – if possible (im not sure in your case), try to do at least 20 minutes per day.

Avoid spicy foods.

Pain relief – try a sitz bath in hot water and applying chipped ice to the wound 2-3 times per day.

For more in depth information about hemorrhoids I suggest you take a look at the links highlighted below.

Hope this helps,

Heather-Jane

Internal Hemorrhoids – An Overview

Internal HemorrhoidInternal hemorrhoids can be the most uncomfortable of all the hemorrhoids and they can be painful depending on the type. Most are easy to treat but some will need an emergency medical procedure.

What Are Symptoms of Internal Hemorrhoids

Although most people understand varicose veins in the legs this is a similar thing (although not exactly the same) that is located in the anus. When they are internal they surround the anus and then they dilate and protrude outward. Sometimes they hang outside the body but in this case they protrude inside.

When this happens many people will first experience it because they will see blood on the toilet paper after they wipe at the end of a bowel movement. They might also see blood on the stool surface after they stand up. This is normal and is not cause for alarm unless it is also accompanied by extreme pain.

Most of the time, these are veins that are small and swollen and are attached to the anal canal wall. If they bulge out they can be squeezed by the muscles of the anus which can cause the pain.

Sometimes blood supply can be cut off from the hemorrhoid and this can cause another condition called “strangulation.” If this occurs it may indicate an immediate need for a physician’s assistance.

Types of Internal Hemorrhoids

There are basically four types of internal hemorrhoids that people encounter and they are presented by the degree of severity:

  • First degree — this is the type that will bulge into the anal canal when a person has a bowel movement. This may occur without any discomfort or it may have a minor irritation.
  • Second degree — this one will bulge away from the anus during a bowel movement then retract when it is finished. This may have minor irritation.
  • Third degree — this one is like a second degree but it does not retract on its own. Instead you will need to use a finger to push it back in.
  • Fourth degree — this is one that would protrude from the anus all the time and it cannot be put back easily. Sometimes these are very painful and a physician will have to perform surgery for relief.

When to Speak to a Doctor About Hemorrhoids

In most cases a hemorrhoid is not a cause to talk to a doctor necessarily if you are not having real discomfort. Often an over the counter cream or suppository can take care of the problem. If it continues to give irritation you may want to talk to a physician.  And if in any doubt at all you should always speak to a doctor.

The one thing that a physician can do is rule out any other problems that may be causing the burning or itching.  A physician can also take a look at the hemorrhoid and recommend the best treatment for it based on the degree of the problem.

The doctor will most likely do a digital (finger) rectal exam and an anoscopy to see what is going on before they suggest a treatment or more examinations.

Help for Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy

Many pregnant women experience hemorrhoids during pregnancy and they can literally be a pain in the butt. They are often something that most cannot avoid because women often are constipated during this time.

hemorrhoids during pregnancy

Some women will get hemorrhoids for the first time when they are pregnant. Sometimes they come in the beginning or they might happen in the second stage of labor when the woman is pushing to get the baby out. They sometimes will go away once pregnancy is completed.

As the pregnancy continues and the uterus grows to accommodate the baby’s growth it can push on the pelvic veins and other veins in the surrounding area. This can slow the blood that returns to the lower part of your body. This can make the veins more swollen or dilated.

Women also have more constipation during pregnancy because they may be straining to get feces out. The strain can make the hemorrhoids either get more aggravated or can get them started.

Progesterone also increases during pregnancy and can cause the vein walls to relax which allows them to swell. This can also slow down the intestinal tract.

How to Get Relief from Hemorrhoid

There are many ways to relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids during pregnancy. Here are a few:

Sitz Bath – One way that many women find to help their hemorrhoids is to sit in a bathtub. This is not always possible when you are pregnant so another suggestion is a Sitz bath. This is a small plastic container that you can sit over the toilet and sit your bottom in to sooth the hemorrhoids.

Hot and cold treatments – Some women find relief when they use hot and cold treatments. You can start with an icepack on the hemorrhoids and then sit in a warm Sitz bath afterwards.

Medicated wipes instead of toilet paper – There are some brands of medicated wipes that are easier to use for wiping than toilet paper. Tucks has one brand that can help. Sometimes these are more soothing to hemorrhoids than regular toilet paper.

Creams or suppositories -. There are many topical remedies that you can put on hemorrhoids to stop the itching and inflammation. Preparation-H is one type but you can also find creams or suppositories to help.

How To Avoid Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy

There are many ways to avoid hemorrhoids during pregnancy so that you will not have to deal with them. The first thing to do is to eat whole foods that are high in fiber. Fruits and vegetables are best because they have the roughage you need and they are natural fiber.

Adding more water to your diet will be good for you and your baby. Drinking the 8-10 glasses of 8 ozs of water or at least 3, 24 oz bottles of bottled water will keep you hydrated and stop constipation.

Finally try to get a little exercise even if it is just a walk around the block. This will also help your circulation and help you stay away from constipation.
