Hemorrhoids, or piles, are varicose veins in the anus. Symptoms are:
pain
itching
swelling
bleeding with bowel movements

They are usually caused by constipation, so increase your roughage (fiber, green vegies, fruit, cereal) and fluid intake. Also, if caused by constipation, do not strain when going to the bathroom. They can also be caused by pregnancy.

If your hemorrhoids are minor, you can treat them with cream available in any drugstore. If serious, you may have to have surgery (a hemorrhoidectomy) to remove them. They can also be treated with rubber bands or injections.

If you have bleeding, be sure to see a doctor. You need to be certain that the bleeding is from hemorrhoids and not some other health issue. Also, if you aren’t sure whether or not you have hemorrhoids, see the doctor for a definitive diagnosis.

What is a good herbal remedy for hemorrhoids when Preparation H is unavailable or not effective enough?

I’ve tried using WiseWays Herbals Lemon Balm Cream (which is good for herpes breakouts), and I’ve found that it’s very soothing at at the very least, a decent protectorate, but I still have hemorrhoids. Horse Chestnut tablets and creams seem to help counteract the problem, but not entirely, so I’m wondering if anyone knows of something relatively common that is known to work.

It appears to be that the only way to be rid of hemorrhoids or piles is to go through more pain and suffering by procedures that claim to eliminate the pain, bleeding, and swelling once and for all; snip, clip and tie and then your hemorrhoid issue will vanish forever.
