Hi.
I’m male. I’ve got this thing near the entrance of my anus, but it’s NOT the hemorrhoids. I’ve had it for almost 3 years now. It never bothers me. It neither hurts nor bleeds regularly. Sometimes it releases very little amount of blood when gets a bit larger.
A doctor says an infection had gotten in there sometime and the only way of getting rid of it is operation.
Should I go for it? Or should I look for other cures like other than cutting my anus?

Ok, a couple of points need to be clarified.

The term ‘external pile’ is often misused to mean a skin tag at the anus. These form following healing of an anal fissure (a tear in the anal lining). Healing causes excessive tissue growth beyond that surrounding it, hence it forms a skin tag, otherwise known as an ‘external pile’ or ‘sentinel pile.’ It sounds like you are a prime candidate to have this, since clenching of the anus compresses small blood vessels, thus reducing blood supply to the anal lining, resulting in anal fissure formation followed by healing and skin tag formation. Anal fissures often itch and may cause slight bleeding, seen on the toilet tissue. Passing stool may sometimes hurt too.

Dear friends, I am getting scared when i surf net when i read about Hemorrhoids and piles because for the past 3 years (i know its too much of time) i am feeling a pulling pain in my anal after bowel movement which is rare and mostly during night between 3-5 am. Hey, to find out whether it’s a hemorrhoid or not I suggest taking a good look at the symptoms – I’ve briefly outlined 5 of the main ones for you below:.

1. The first hemorrhoid symptom is bright red blood in or on the stool, or blood on the toilet paper. If you notice streaks of blood in or on the stool or on the toilet paper during or after bowel movement then it’s fairly likely that you have hemorrhoids.

2. The second hemorrhoid symptom is when you have a feeling that you can’t finish passing a stool. You may have noticed that not matter how hard you try – you just can’t pass the stool

Internal Hemorrhoid & External Hemorrhoids

When you suffer from hemorrhoids there are basically two types of hemorrhoids: internal or external. Both can be uncomfortable but there are ways that you can fix the problem. There are also several degrees of hemorrhoids that will be explained in this article.

Internal hemorrhoids usually are not noticeable when they are small and when there is no pain. They may bleed and you will see this blood in several different ways. You will see it when you wipe yourself, there may be a little blood on the toilet seat or you might see some on the surface of your feces when you look into the toilet or in your underwear.

Because most people are told that if they find bleeding it is a reason to panic, most people will panic when they see this blood. However it often looks worse than it is. Sometimes they will also be prolapsed which means they might protrude out of the anus. This will usually mean that you will need someone to help you push them back in.

Types of Internal Hemorrhoids

Usually there are four ways that an internal hemorrhoid will present itself. Here are the most common ways:

• First degree — This type of hemorrhoid will bulge into the anal canal when a person has a bowel movement. This often happens when they are straining to go.

• Second degree — this one bulges out of the anus during a bowel movement then retract when it is finished.

• Third degree — this type of internal hemorrhoid doesn’t retract on its own and will need a finger to push it back in.

• Fourth degree — this is a protruding hemorrhoid that does not retract on its own and that you cannot replace into the anus.  Sometimes these are very painful and a physician will have to perform surgery for relief.

External Hemorrhoids

External hemorrhoids come because of the veins that are centered around the anus. This is the type that is very itchy and can sometimes have a burning sensation. Some people also experience a cracking in them and bleeding. Again, you will see the bleeding on the toilet paper after your bowel movement, in your underwear or in the toilet.

How You Know if You have a Hemorrhoid

Although you probably won’t know whether you have a hemorrhoid in most cases there are a few symptoms. You will experience a burning or itchy feeling after a bowel movement even after you have wiped. You may also feel an aching in the anus after a particularly painful release of feces. You might feel a lump outside or inside the anus that is hard and fleshy or you may see the bright red blood that we have mentioned.

What Are Symptoms of Internal Hemorrhoids

Although most people understand varicose veins in the legs this is a similar thing (although not exactly the same) that is located in the anus. When they are internal they surround the anus and then they dilate and protrude outward. Sometimes they hang outside the body but in this case they protrude inside.

When this happens many people will first experience it because they will see blood on the toilet paper after they wipe at the end of a bowel movement. They might also see blood on the stool surface after they stand up. This is normal and is not cause for alarm unless it is also accompanied by extreme pain.

Most of the time, these are veins that are small and swollen and are attached to the anal canal wall. If they bulge out they can be squeezed by the muscles of the anus which can cause the pain.

Sometimes blood supply can be cut off from the hemorrhoid and this can cause another condition called “strangulation.” If this occurs it may indicate an immediate need for a physician’s assistance.

Types of Internal Hemorrhoids

There are basically four types of internal hemorrhoids that people encounter and they are presented by the degree of severity:

• First degree — this is the type that will bulge into the anal canal when a person has a bowel movement. This may occur without any discomfort or it may have a minor irritation.

• Second degree — this one will bulge away from the anus during a bowel movement then retract when it is finished. This may have minor irritation.

• Third degree — this one is like a second degree but it does not retract on its own. Instead you will need to use a finger to push it back in.

When to Speak to a Doctor About Hemorrhoids

In most cases a hemorrhoid is not a cause to talk to a doctor necessarily if you are not having real discomfort. Often an over the counter cream or suppository can take care of the problem. If it continues to give irritation you may want to talk to a physician.  And if in any doubt at all you should always speak to a doctor.

The one thing that a physician can do is rule out any other problems that may be causing the burning or itching.  A physician can also take a look at the hemorrhoid and recommend the best treatment for it based on the degree of the problem.

The doctor will most likely do a digital (finger) rectal exam and an anoscopy to see what is going on before they suggest a treatment or more examinations.

Pain – The internal hemorrhoids will cause the most painful hemorrhoids symptoms because they swell and can be squeezed by the muscles that control the anus. This can be mild to extreme pain depending on the situation. If the pain is extreme it may mean that the blood supply to the anus is cut off and therefore in need of an emergency procedure.

Situations That Increase The Risk Of Having Hemorrhoids Symptoms

There are several situations that may increase your risk of experiencing hemorrhoids. These can include persistent constipation or diarrhea, being overweight, being over 50 or having a history of hemorrhoids in the family.

For some women, pregnancy can also cause problems with hemorrhoids because the blood volume or pressure in the pelvic blood vessels can increase in the last six months as the women moves towards delivery. If she strains during delivery this can also make them happen.

Also standing or sitting a long time can make hemorrhoids worse or lifting heavy objects while holding your breath. This can create pressure in the anus and can be a major cause of hemorrhoids.

Most hemorrhoids are difficult to get to and treat because of their location in the anus. Usually it is most noticeable after a bowel movement and in some cases it will prolapse during the bowel movement than retract naturally afterward.

Sometimes the individual will need help to push it back into the anus if it doesn’t retract on its own. There are times when the prolapsed hemorrhoid stays inside the anus and becomes strangulated. In this case a doctor may have to help because it can be extremely painful.

There are several ways that a hemorrhoid can prolapse: It can stay outside the body and not retract. It can stay outside and retract after the bowel movement. It can also be one that is manually inserted or it can’t be replaced at all. These are the ways that most people will experience the hemorrhoid and each is a different degree of discomfort.

When you notice prolapsed hemorrhoids it will look like a bit of tissue that has fallen out of the anus and are a very soft tissue. There may be mucus around it as well. Usually this is nothing to worry about unless it is very painful. Most doctors will treat the symptoms with a remedy like Preparation-H which is a special formula for treating hemorrhoids.

Treatment for Prolapsed Hemorrhoids

There are many types of treatment for hemorrhoids. For a prolapsed one it can be as simple as getting help to push the hemorrhoid back into the anus.
